Total Hysterectomy: Outpatient
Total Hysterectomy: Laparoscopic
About This Procedure:
This total hysterectomy surgery removes the uterus and cervix using surgical tools passed through tubes and a scope, called a laparoscope. The scope is passed into the body through small cuts in the belly or through the vagina. This procedure treats a number of conditions like painful menstrual bleeding, uterine tissue disorders and cancer.
Most hysterectomies are done outpatient – the procedure takes 1-2 hours and the patient returns home the same day. An outpatient hysterectomy costs thousands of dollars less than when done inpatient and the recovery time at home is faster when surgery is done with a laparoscope as it puts less strain on the body.
