In this total hysterectomy surgery, the uterus and cervix are removed using surgical tools passed through a cut in the belly or through tubes and a scope, called a laparoscope.  This procedure treats a number of conditions like painful menstrual bleeding, uterine tissue disorders and cancer.

Thought most hysterectomies are done outpatient this procedure is done inpatient with an overnight hospital stay.   An outpatient hysterectomy costs thousands of dollars less than when done inpatient.  The recovery time at home is faster when the surgery is done with a laparoscope as it puts less strain on the body.
