About This Procedure:

Stomach sleeve surgery makes the stomach smaller to help people lose weight. More than half of the stomach is removed and a small sleeve of the stomach is formed with surgical staples.  This surgery is done by making several cuts in the belly and inserting a scope -- a small tube with a camera, a light and surgical tools.

With a smaller stomach a person feels full more quickly and eats less. To lose weight, along with the surgery, lifelong changes to eating habits are needed.

This outpatient surgery is less expensive than when done inpatient: the surgery takes about an hour and the patient returns home the same day.
