About This Procedure:
In this surgery, abnormal tissue growth is removed from the ovaries, fallopian tubes or elsewhere in the pelvis. The surgery is done with a laparoscope, a tube with a light, camera and surgical tools, that is passed into the body through small cuts in the belly.
This is a treatment for endometriosis which can cause severe pelvic pain, cramping and heavy bleeding during and between menstrual cycles. In more severe cases, the disorder leads to cysts, scar tissue, infections and infertility.
The surgery can relieve pain but it is not a cure. The treatment often includes pain relief medications and hormone therapy.
This particular surgery is done in an outpatient center or hospital outpatient department. Patients can save money by shopping for this service as there may be many options locally that offer this care.
