About This Procedure:
This visit to treat mental and behavioral conditions includes the patient and family and is led by a clinician; often a psychologist, psychiatrist or other therapist. The clinician, through questions and conversation, helps spot and work through the behaviors, emotions, life events, and ideas that are at the root of the problem. Families learn about the condition and ways to help their family member.
Usually done in the doctor’s office, the price of a family therapy visit is similar to or less than the fee for a doctor’s office visit for medical care. This is a family therapy visit – just for the patient and family. Other less costly services include group therapy in which a small group of patients share experiences together with a clinician who leads the group.
