About This Procedure:
A visit to evaluate a possible mental health problem usually involves a physical exam, an interview, and lab tests. During the exam the clinician, often a psychologist, psychiatrist or therapist, asks about the health of the person and their family. Reflexes, balance, and senses may be tested to check for physical health problems. The person is asked about symptoms or concerns, use of medications, mood, reasoning and memory.
Usually done in the doctor’s office, the price of a mental health evaluation visit is similar to the fee for a regular doctor’s office visit for medical care. There may be additional expenses for other care like lab tests to check hormone levels or for signs of drug or alcohol problems.
