About This Procedure:
A lipid panel is a set of blood tests that measure fat and cholesterol in the body. Typically, a blood sample is taken with a needle draw from the arm.
Patients may get a lipid panel test as part of a regular exam to check for signs of heart disease or for progress in lowering cholesterol – through steps like exercise, diet changes, or taking a medication.
Lab test prices can vary depending upon the lab location – stand-alone labs often cost less than labs done in a doctor’s office; typically hospital outpatient labs have higher prices. Most, but not all, insurance plans cover a blood test as part of routine wellness exams, at no or low cost to the patient.
