About This Procedure:
Adults age 40 and older should have a yearly check-up visit also called wellness care. These preventive visits cover many aspects of women’s and men’s health including a physical exam and health history, screening for common diseases like heart and cancer, sexual health, and getting vaccine shots. These visits also are a time to talk about healthy habits and any emotional problems. Prostate checks for men and breast checks for women’s are done. Lab tests and other health screenings may be done in advance to talk about the results.
Most, but not all, health insurance plans cover these adult preventive services but the share of the cost you pay varies. The cost depends on the tests and vaccines you get and where you go for these services. These other tests often are done at a lab, imaging center, or local pharmacy.
