About This Procedure:

Mastectomy with reconstruction is surgery to remove one breast and to rebuild the breast using an implant.  The implant, a pouch filled with silicone or salt water and shaped like the breast, is placed under a layer of chest muscle. The surgery may be done to treat breast cancer or to avoid possible cancer later.

This particular reconstruction surgery involves creating a tissue expander in the breast allowing for the breast reconstruction to be completed at the time the breast is removed or in the future.  Commonly, the breast reconstruction is finished later particularly if the treatment includes radiation therapy.

The prices shown here are for the two procedures – the breast removal and the breast reconstruction during a single operation done outpatient.  The total price for the breast reconstruction care can be much more as the woman has follow-up visits and care including adding or adjusting the breast implant.
