About This Procedure:
Medicine is injected into the spine to relieve back pain. A mixture of an anti-inflammatory medicine, called corticosteroid, and a pain reliever is injected by needle. This shot can ease back pain by reducing swelling and inflammation which takes pressure off of the nerves and muscles around the spine.
The procedure’s price varies a lot as it can be done in a number of settings – like a doctor’s office, an outpatient center, or a hospital outpatient department.
These injections cost much less than surgery, however, they only work for a short time and are not used to treat ongoing back pain. There are a number of other treatments to relieve back pain and restore function including applying heat and ice, acupuncture, chiropractic manipulation, massage, physical therapy and exercise.
